The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today (Friday) that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian regime, Faisal Al-Miqdad, intends to visit Cairo tomorrow (Saturday). without more details. No details were released from Damascus about the visit.
Shukri and Al-Miqdad had previously met in September 2021 in New York, in the first meeting between the ministers of the two countries in 10 years, at the time.
However, the expected visit is the first at the level of the Syrian foreign minister to Egypt since the Arab League suspended Syria's membership in November 2011, against the backdrop of popular protests.
The visit comes about a month after a visit by the Egyptian Foreign Minister on February 27 to Syria and Turkey in solidarity with them against the background of the devastating earthquake that struck them on the sixth of the same month, for the first time since 2011.
