The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, considered that the armistice "is still in place to a large extent" and many of its provisions have been implemented so far. Grundberg said in an article published on the Yemeni media platform, Al-Mashhad, and re-established his official account on Telegram today (Sunday): “The most important thing that the truce heralded is to enhance the opportunity to launch an inclusive political process aimed at ending the conflict in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.”
He added, "Today, with the renewed national, regional and international momentum to reach peace in Yemen, this opportunity is possible, but there are still great risks," pointing out that the military, economic and rhetorical escalation in recent weeks reminds us of the fragility of the armistice's achievements if it is not based on political progress. towards a peaceful solution to the conflict. The UN official stated that the government and the Houthi militia must be ready to sit together and engage in serious and responsible dialogue.
Grundberg pointed out that despite the impact of the truce continuing until today, no interim agreement can sustainably address the long-standing suffering of all Yemenis, noting that recovery will only begin with a comprehensive solution to the conflict.
For its part, the French embassy in Yemen today blamed the Houthi militia for not renewing the UN armistice that ended on the second of last October. The embassy said on its Twitter account: "The second of April marks the first anniversary of the armistice that was reached through the mediation of the United Nations. Unfortunately, this armistice has not been officially renewed since the second of last October, and the Houthi group is responsible for not renewing it." It called on all parties, especially the Houthis, to renounce violence and negotiate in good faith under the auspices of the United Nations. He stressed that achieving peace and stability requires a direct dialogue between the government and the Houthis to reach a comprehensive political solution, calling for the renewal and preservation of the UN armistice.
